In-Line QC vs Final PSI: When to Book Each

In-line quality control and final pre-shipment inspection (PSI) answer different risk questions. Booking the right stage at the right time protects cost, calendar, and brand reputation.

What in-line QC is for

In-line checks happen while production is still running. Inspectors look for recurring workmanship, measurement, or process issues early enough for the factory to correct them before bulk packing.

What final PSI is for

Final PSI reviews finished goods against your tech pack and AQL plan — quantity, workmanship, measurements, labeling, packing, and carton marks — before shipment release.

When to book each

• New factory or critical style: schedule in-line visits plus a final PSI
• Stable repeat orders: final PSI may be enough if prior lots were clean
• Tight ship dates: do not skip in-line if early defects would force expensive rework
